Bach, Haydn & Zelenka
Zelenka: Magnificat in D major
Haydn: Cello Concerto in D major
Bach: Mass in F major
Lydia Hillerudh (cello)
Victor Jacob (conductor)
In between concerts in London and Paris, we welcome the young French conductor Victor Jacob to perform a programme of eighteenth century masterworks played by period instrument specialists.
Zelenka’s Magnificat may be something of a rarity, but this Bohemian composer, a friend of Bach, is rapidly being rediscovered.
Newbury Chamber Choir completes its cycle of Bach’s four short Masses which, it is now thought, Bach deliberately compiled from highlights of other works.
Haydn’s famous Cello Concerto needs no introduction: it will be played by the prize-winning young musician from Sweden, Lydia Hillerudh.
A truly international event then, showcasing fine up-and-coming talent, and one sure to be appreciated in the glowing acoustics of St John’s Church.
